This 2-star, family owned city centre hotel comprises a collection of 6 listed buildings around a courtyard setting.
Situated on Skeldergate, the ancient Roman waterfront leads from the city walls across the river to the historic city.
The convenient location, combined with the hotels scenic setting is ideal for exploring York and the surrounding area. The railway station and all major attractions are within easy walking distance.
A full range of facilities include a restaurant serving English cooking, a bar with lounge area and a health and fitness centre with counter current fitness pool (booking required), sauna and cardiovascular equipment (limited availability to children under 16 years old).
The hotel is an entirely non-smoking venue.
Use of Emperors Health and Fitness Centre, as well as use of the fitness facilities (both subject to availability) are free for guests.

The restaurant is open for a continental buffet and served full English breakfast from 7.30am - 9.30am (Mon-Sat)8am - 10am (Sun). A continental breakfast tray can be arranged for times earlier than this. The restaurant is open for dinner from 6pm - 9pm each evening (occasionally times may vary), serving a four course dinner plus coffee for 17.95 per person. Our kitchen team produces tempting dishes based on local, national and international cuisine, the emphasis being the use of locally produced fresh food. All special diets can be catered for, but advance notice is appreciated to allow for the purchase of specific requirements.
By car: Although there are many routes into York, we recommend the following: On reaching the York Outer Ring Road, the a64 & a1237, take the shortest route to the a1036 (York West) junction. This is Tadcaster Road. Follow a1036 straight on, past York Racecourse which will be on your right, to the city wall (Micklegate Bar). Turn right at traffic lights, into Nunnery Lane, and keep the City Walls on your left until you come to the Skeldergate Bridge. Just before the bridge turn left into Skeldergate, and then immediately left onto Cromwell Road. The entrance to the hotel car park is second on the right (approx 100 yards), on the brow of the hill. By Train: We are situated approximately half a mile away from the railway station, a 10 minute walk or a short taxi ride. A taxi rank is located at the station for your convenience.
